Artist Statement:
I’ve been riding my horse, Eh Melody Maguar (Maggie) for five years now. She’s the horse I’ve learned a lot of thing about my life on and done a lot of the things that are now important to me. My horse is my only pet and I love her maybe more than anything in the world. She’s a flea-bitten arabian mare and the sweetest horse I’ve ever met. The photos I took of her were at our equestrian meet this weekend in her stall. I made sure to find an area with natural sunlight where she could have some food so she would look pleasant and happy. In these photos I feel as though I sort of bonded with her and I definitely found more ways to work with her (and people in general) to create the image I want. I also feel as though I sort of broke out of my tendency to constantly use the rule of thirds, which makes for very similar images.
